The British English Language Programme – C1 (Advanced) aims to develop advanced linguistic and communicative competence in accordance with the descriptors and learning outcomes of CEFR Level C1. The programme adopts an integrated approach combining advanced language analysis with its practical application in complex academic and professional contexts. It enables learners to use English flexibly and effectively, organise sophisticated ideas, understand explicit and implicit meaning, and adapt their communication according to context, purpose and audience. The curriculum addresses the following areas: Listening Understanding extended lectures, discussions, interviews and professional presentations, including materials containing abstract ideas, natural speech rates and a range of British pronunciation patterns and accents. Speaking and Spoken Interaction Expressing complex ideas fluently and precisely, participating effectively in seminars, meetings and advanced discussions, and presenting arguments and responses in a structured and persuasive manner. Reading Understanding and critically analysing extended and complex texts, including academic articles, technical reports, professional materials and critical writing, while identifying viewpoint, purpose, style and implied meaning. Writing Producing clear, detailed and well-structured texts, including analytical and critical essays, reports, proposals, professional correspondence and academic writing, using a style appropriate to purpose and audience. Grammar and Vocabulary Applying a broad range of advanced grammatical structures, academic and professional vocabulary, collocations and idiomatic expressions with accuracy, flexibility and appropriate stylistic control. Pronunciation and Fluency Developing a high degree of fluency and clarity, with effective control of stress, rhythm and intonation in formal, academic and professional British English contexts. Pragmatic and Stylistic Competence Selecting an appropriate register, interpreting implied and indirect meaning, and adapting language according to the context, recipient and communicative purpose. Upon successful completion, learners are expected to understand a wide range of demanding spoken and written material, express complex ideas fluently and precisely, and use English flexibly and effectively for advanced academic, professional and social purposes at a level consistent with CEFR C1.
